Amazing Grace

That morning as I headed out on my walk, I forgot my sunglasses and the Lord had painted one very bright, sunshiny morning. I headed out to the west for 1/2 mile and the sun was blinding. As the sun was making it hard to see, I was reminded of the hymn, “Amazing Grace”. I was blind, but at that moment, God opened my eyes. I had been feeling very “inadequate” lately. I never felt like a “good enough” person. I felt like a failure every day – as a Mom, wife, friend, etc. My patience was short, to say the least. But God in His Amazing Grace meets us where we are at that very moment. He speaks straight to our hearts when despair and depression blind us and says, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in your weakness”. 2 Corinthians 12:9.

Reading further into 2 Corinthians 12:10-11 (NIV) says, “That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong”. Verse 1 of the infamous Amazing Grace song is this: Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound – that saved a wretch like me. I once was lost, but now am found, was blind but now I see.

On my walk, after 1/2 mile headed west, I turned and went 1/2 mile to the south. While walking in that direction, I noticed my shadow was right there beside me. Interesting. On my way back, headed north, it was still right there beside me. And on my way back to the west, wouldn’t you know it? My shadow was in front of me, leading me home. Isn’t this how God is with us too? Sometimes the God of all mercy and comfort walks behind us, pushing us to greatness. Sometimes our Savior and Comforter walks in front of us to lead the way, and make our path straight. Proverbs 3:6, “In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your path straight”. And other times, the Great I Am walks right beside us. He is with us every step of the way in His great Omnipresence (meaning He is everywhere by His Divine power).

Every day this Savior that is also our friend, true God, and true Man, meets us right where we are at with His Amazing grace, love, and understanding. Deuteronomy 5:33 says, “Walk in obedience to all that the Lord your God has commanded you so that you may live and prosper and prolong your days in the land that you will possess.” John 8:12 says, “When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
